If you’re staying at home for your holidays this year, don’t worry, there are still plenty of fun things you can do to keep your kids busy and entertained.
Whether it’s because of the pandemic or because of budgets, there are lots of ways to bring the fun of the outside world inside.
These are our 5 favourite ways to have fun with your kids at home, no matter what’s going on.
1. Camp At Home
If you and your kids are fans of the outdoors, have a fun outdoor experience right in your back garden by camping at home.
Simply pitch a tent or use blankets and poles to make a covering.
If your kids have never been camping before this is also a great way to teach them and show them the ropes.
You can incorporate all the fun aspects of camping easily at home.
Toasting marshmallows? Check.
Stargazing? Check.
Scary stories? Double check.
2. Have A Cinema NIght
Bring all the fun of the cinema home with an at-home movie night.
A fun idea is letting each member of your family pick a movie to watch, and having a movie marathon.
Buy in some popcorn, snacks, and get the comfy blankets out.
If you want to really up your movie night game, you use a projector against an empty wall.
It will feel just like the movies.
3. Have a Picnic
A fun and different way to enjoy lunch with your kids at home is by having a picnic in the garden.
Going out to eat with children can be tricky, with different menus, public bathrooms, and tantrums.
Keep everything easy and accessible by bringing the restaurant home to you.
You can have all your favourite treats on the menu, with complete peace and privacy to enjoy them.
Enhance your kids’ experience by involving them in the cooking and preparing stage.
And then throw a cute blanket on the ground, bring out your snacks, and you have everything you need.
4. Have A Bake-Off
Have you seen The Great British Bake Off?
If you haven’t, you should.
Baking is always a fun activity for children to do with their parents, and a way to make it even more fun is to add a competition aspect to it.
If your children are very small, split into teams and have each team include one parent and one child.
Come up with a recipe and bake it.
Then present your bakes to the other team and decide who is the winner.
(When there are two cakes, everyone is the winner in my eyes…)
5. Plan A Games Night
Another great way to combine fun and a little healthy competition is to have a family games night at home.
Make it the most fun by having multiple games to play and arrange a tournament.
Whoever wins the most games overall by the end of the night wins a prize.
This means if certain people are better at certain games than others, it all works out evenly in the end.
Whatever the games are and whatever the prize is up to you.
Why not use this opportunity to teach your children how to play one of your all-time favourite games?
