Did your child just stumble upon a video that you’d rather they not see? If you have kids yourself, then you would know that these things happen all the time. Kids are curious little beings who tend to explore and learn new things at every opportunity. But there are some things that parents need to protect their kids from—at least until they’re old enough to understand them. If your child has access to the unrestricted version of YouTube (that is, if you haven’t set it to family-friendly mode), then chances are that they can watch any video on there that they want. This can present a problem because as it turns out, there are quite a few videos on YouTube that parents might not want their kids watching for one reason or another. That’s why we’re going to teach you how you can block channels on Youtube Kids. It might sound like an uphill battle, but trust us: once you know how, it will be easy as pie!
How To Block Channels On Youtube Kids
The first step in blocking channels on YouTube Kids is to find the channel that you want to block. There are two ways to do this. First, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for the channel name. But you can also use the browse channels feature to find a channel quickly by tapping on the icon in the top-right corner. Once you’ve found the channel that you want to block, move on to the next step to find out how to get the ID for the channel.
Step 2: Finding The ID For The Channel
The ID for a channel is a unique number that’s attached to every single channel on YouTube. In order to block a channel on YouTube Kids, you first have to find the ID for the channel that you want to block. Find the channel that you want to block and tap on it to go to the detail page. Scroll down to the “About this channel” section. There, you will find a large text box with a sentence that looks like this: “The owner of this channel is [OWNER NAME].” The word “about” is a hyperlink so simply click on it to go to the About page for the channel. Next, scroll down until you find the word “Id”. This word is also a hyperlink so click on it to reveal the channel ID. Don’t close this tab yet. You’ll need to copy the channel ID so that you can go to the next step.
Step 3: Go to youtube.com/channel_tools and paste the ID
This step is simple once you’ve found the ID for the channel that you want to block. Simply go to youtube.com/channel_tools and paste the channel ID into the box that says “Block a channel”. Then, click “Block channel”. Now, every time your child goes to watch videos on YouTube kids, they won’t be able to see any videos on that channel!
Step 4: Confirm that you want to block the channel
Before you click “Block channel”, you should be absolutely sure that you want to block the channel. Once you’ve blocked the channel, there’s no going back—so only block a channel if you’re completely sure that you want to do so. This being said, once you click “Block channel”, the channel will disappear from the YouTube Kids app and your child won’t be able to watch any of the videos on that channel.
Conclusion
All in all, there are some pretty good reasons to block channels on YouTube Kids. Especially if you have younger children who are just beginning to explore the world of online video, it’s important to know how to block channels on YouTube Kids so that you can protect your kids from inappropriate content.
