If you want to travel with your children but you are worried about spending too much money, this is the blog for you.
Travelling as a family can be difficult and expensive, if you don’t get it right.
But if you do get it right, there are plenty of ways that you can enjoy yourself on holiday without breaking the bank.
Let’s jump right into them.
Book in Advance
One of the easiest ways to save money on flights, trains, hotels and tickets for attractions is to book them well in advance.
Some attractions and hotels will offer early booking discounts, and most travel tickets will be cheaper the farther in advance that you book them.
Being a parent takes the spontaneity out of things, unfortunately.
But hey, we can work around it.
Booking everything in advance also helps you work on your budget and spending money for a trip, as most things will already be paid off by the time you go. This saves you worrying about money as much when you are actually on your holiday, and you can be free to enjoy it much more.
Book early, save money. It’s as simple as that.
Go Out of Season
Sometimes this can be a little tricky with school holidays and term times, but when you can, always try and travel out of peak-season.
Summer, Christmas, Halloween and Easter will be the most expensive times to travel, and the price of everything involved in your trip will skyrocket.
Travelling at less popular times, and even less popular days of week, will save you money.
Try and always shop around when you are booking plane tickets and hotels. Look at all the dates in the month and pick when is the cheapest.
This will even apply to train tickets and bus tickets. They are much cheaper in off-peak times.
Bring Snacks With You
Children enjoy things that are familiar to them. They also can get very grumpy when they are hungry.
These two things can easily lead to disaster when travelling or when on holiday.
Save yourself airport tantrums by packing their favourite snacks in your luggage and carry-on bags.
Things that are already packaged are the best kind of snacks for this, as they will stay fresh for your whole trip. Having things already packed that you know for sure your child will eat, will save you a lot of stress and heartache during the holiday.
It is also perfect for travelling on a budget.
Airport snacks are more expensive than those in supermarkets, and snacks in tourist spots and attractions are more expensive too.
Save yourself money every day by bringing your own snacks with you.
Avail of Free Activities and Attractions
It’s easy to fall into the trap of only going to paid attractions and paid tourist spots while you are on holidays or trips.
Sure you can do a couple of paid things for each trip, they might be some of the reasons you are even going.
But remember that lots of fun things are still free.
Make the most of the outdoors on your holiday, and check out free public locations such as museums and local landmarks.
We don’t need to spend money to have a good time.
